Self select options

If you wish to choose your own investments, you select from one or more of the self select options. If you do, it will be up to you to monitor your investments to make sure they continue to meet your needs as your circumstances change.

You can make your choices online via your account, by completing this form or by contacting us. This does not have to be your final decision, you can of course change your investment strategy at any time and as many times as you want, free of charge through the same channels.

It’s important that, once in a while, you check that your Personal Account investment options are still right for you, particularly if your personal circumstances change.

Fund Risk Types

Cautious Risk

Annuity Preparation
The fund invests predominately in investment grade corporate bonds denominated in sterling and fixed-income gilts. It aims to achieve a return which broadly reflects the change in price of annuities. The fund is passively managed.

Cash Fund
The fund invests in cash deposits, commercial papers, certificates of deposit, floating rate notes and government bills. 

Cautious Growth Fund
The fund invests 55% of assets in global stock markets, with the balance invested in a range of other assets to reduce the impact of stock market volatility. It aims to provide some exposure to share returns but to reduce volatility through significant investment in bonds and gilts. The asset allocation of this fund has been decided by the Trustees. The fund is passively managed.

Corporate Bond Fund
The fund invests in investment grade corporate bonds (excluding BBB rated) denominated in sterling. It aims to generate a total return in line with the sterling denominated bond market (excluding BBB rated securities). The fund is passively managed.

Fixed Interest Gilt Fund
The fund invests in fixed-income gilts. It aims to achieve a return consistent with the FTSE A Government (All Stocks) Index. The fund is passively managed.

Index-Linked Gilt Fund
The fund invests in index-linked gilts. It aims to achieve a return consistent with the FTSE A Index- Linked (All Stocks) Index. The fund is passively managed.

 

 

Moderate Risk

Balanced Growth Fund
The fund invests 70% of assets in global stock markets, with the balance invested in a range of other assets to reduce the impact of stock market volatility. It aims to provide exposure to shares and to reduce volatility through some investment in bonds and gilts. The asset allocation of this fund has been decided by the Trustees. The fund is passively managed.

Multi Asset Fund
The fund invests in a wide range of asset classes, such as shares, property and alternative assets. It aims to generate long-term returns but with a lower level of volatility than is associated with pure share investments. By diversifying into many different asset classes, the fund offers a greater balance in the level of risk and return. The fund is actively managed.

 

 

High Risk

Adventurous Growth Fund
The fund invests 85% of assets in global stock markets with the balance invested in a range of other assets to reduce the impact of stock market volatility. It aims to provide high exposure to shares and to reduce volatility through a 15% investment in bonds and gilts. The asset allocation of this fund has been decided by the Trustees. The fund is passively managed.

Emerging Markets Fund

The fund invests mainly in shares of companies located in emerging market countries throughout the world and aims to track the performance of the FTSE Emerging Index (less withholding tax where applicable), to within +/‑1.5% p.a. for two years out of three. The fund is passively managed.

Ethical Fund
The fund invests in the shares of UK and overseas companies which demonstrate strong Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) practices. It aims to achieve a return in line with the FTSE4Good Global Equity Index. The fund is passively managed. 

Global Equity Fund
The fund invests primarily in shares, both in the UK and overseas markets. The proportion the fund invests in each country is based on the size of their stock market. It aims to provide returns consistent with the markets in which it invests and provides broad exposure to countries around the world. The fund is passively managed.

Overseas Equity Fund
The fund invests in the shares of overseas companies. The proportion the fund invests in each country is based on the size of their stock market. Within each of these markets, the fund aims to generate returns consistent with those of each country’s primary share market. It aims to achieve a return in line with the FTSE World Developed ex-UK Index. The fund is passively managed.

Private Markets Fund

Half of the fund invests in multi-asset private markets, including private equity, private debt, private infrastructure and private real estate investments. This portion of the fund is actively managed.

A further quarter invests in shares of companies in the three core infrastructure sectors (transportation, energy and telecommunications) from developed countries.

The final quarter invests in listed companies that invest in private equity around the world.

The investments in these two quarters are passively managed.

The objective of the fund is to achieve a blend of returns and indexes, as follows:

  • Half aims to achieve a return of 8.75% each year;
  • A quarter aims to match the return of the FTSE Developed Core Infrastructure total return index; and
  • A further quarter to match the return of the LPX Composite Total Return Index

Property Fund
The fund invests mainly in UK freehold and leasehold property recognising that superior stock selection is a key driver of out-performance. An allocation is also made to global real estate index markets to offer diversification while reducing dealing and management costs and enhancing liquidity. The fund is actively managed.

Shariah Fund
The fund invests in shares of the 100 largest global companies which meet Shariah guidelines. It adopts a passive share investment strategy that mirrors and tracks the Dow Jones Islamic Titans 100 Index. The Islamic Titans Index consists of Shariah compliant companies endorsed by the Dow Jones Shariah Supervisory Committee. The companies may or may not be actively following Shariah principles. This fund is passively managed.

UK Equity Fund
The fund invests in the shares of companies listed on the London Stock Exchange. Its performance aims to reflect the FTSE All Share Index with income re-invested. The fund is passively managed.

UK Equity High Alpha Fund
The fund invests in a range of managers with the aim of significantly outperforming the benchmark. The Trustees can select from a range of equity managers or sector specific funds. The fund can be actively or passively managed.

Unconstrained Global Equity Fund
The fund invests in an unconstrained, but still diversified, portfolio of UK and international shares. The investment strategy focuses on stock selection and is not restricted by index weightings, sector constraints or company size. The fund is actively managed.
